Biography

Graduated from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) with MBBS in 1975, and University of London (MSc medical sociology 1980; MSc occupational medicine 1981), and HKU (MD by research 1988). In HKU, Prof LAM Tai-hing was Head of the Department of Community Medicine (2000-12) and Director of School of Public Health (2009-13), Chair Professor in Community Medicine (2000-21) and Sir Robert Kotewall Professorship in Public Health (2007-21). H-index: 92 (2024), Top 1% most cited scientists (2021).

Prof Lam was appointed World Health Organization (WHO) short-term consultant, temporary advisor or expert participant for more than ten occasions. In 1998, he received Commemorative Certificate and Medal from WHO in recognition of his efforts on tobacco control. His research areas are epidemiology and control of noncommunicable diseases, leading many researches and trials on smoking cessation interventions and healthy lifestyle. Prof Lam has published 1000+ papers in international peer reviewed journals. He was Chairman of Scientific Committee on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections of the Department of Health, Member of Hospital Governing Committee of Shatin Hospital, Chairman of Cancer Expert Working Group on Cancer Prevention and Screening of Food and Health Bureau, Member of the Family Council, principal investigator of Jockey Club FAMILY Project and SMART Family-Link Project.
