Biography

Professor Siu-man Ng is a prominent scholar in social work and mental health, currently serving in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at The University of Hong Kong. With a distinctive background in both social work and Chinese medicine, his research focuses on the intersection of culture, mental health, and psychosocial interventions. He is notably recognized for translating the concept of stagnation syndrome from Chinese medicine into a measurable psychological phenomenon, fostering culturally sensitive mental health care. His work addresses critical issues such as family expressed emotion in schizophrenia, mindfulness, and workplace well-being. Prof. Ng has authored the influential book Integrative Body-Mind-Spirit Social Work, advocating for holistic assessment and treatment. He actively contributes to professional service as President of the Hong Kong Association of Schools of Social Work, promoting the integration of Eastern and Western approaches in social work and mental health through research, teaching, and leadership.
